Dusk is a new print that I’ve just finished, and, for me, it’s a big one – it measures almost 19” square. It’s a line etching with aquatint and drypoint. As is usual with most of my etchings, it’s printed in black ink on white BFK Rives paper, in an edition of 25 prints. Each print, of course, is numbered and signed by the artist.
Dusk is loosely based on the industrial waterfront neighborhood near my home on the north Shore of Staten Island – specifically, an abandoned US Gypsum plant. On Groundhog day, 2011, following one of the many killer snow storms of the winter, I sat in my car and made a pencil study (pictured below). I carried this image around with me mentally for some time before starting the print at Eastertime - I just couldn’t get that street light out of my mind.
